Qualifications and Experience
I earned my bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and received my MD from University of Virginia. I completed my internship in general surgery and urology residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. During my training I was drawn to urology because it encompasses a wide breadth of medical and surgical problems. Some of the things I do provide immediate relief to patients – and in turn – immediate gratification for me as the provider. However, many urologic problems require long-term follow-up and long-term care. The opportunity to take care of patients both medically and surgically and follow them over a long period of time was what attracted me to the field. My personal philosophy and approach to urology is to treat the person and not just the condition. Many of the conditions we treat affect patients’ quality of life, sometimes quite profoundly. I try to be sensitive as possible with patients and family with respect to potential physical and emotional side effects of many of our treatments. I believe in open dialogue with patients, to empower them and their families with knowledge so they can make informed decisions regarding their care.
