Bryan K. Chen, M.D., a board certified dermatologist, has been practicing dermatology in San Diego since 2003. Originally from the Bay Area of California, he graduated summa cum laude with degrees in English and Neuroscience from Berkeley and received his medical degree from the UC San Diego School of Medicine. His medical training includes a year of pediatrics at UC Davis and a clinical fellowship in hair loss disorders at UCSF. He trained in dermatology at the University of California, San Diego, where he served as chief resident.
Dr. Chen`s areas of interest and specialized training include skin cancer surgery and reconstruction, cosmetic dermatology, medical and pediatric dermatology.
Dr. Chen has authored numerous research articles and book chapters. Formerly a clinical instructor of dermatology (medicine) at UCSD, he has been involved in the teaching of dermatology residents. He is past president of the San Diego Society for Dermatologic Surgery. His current and past memberships include the American Society for Mohs Surgery, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American Academy of Dermatology, the California Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, the San Diego County Medical Society.
Dr. Chen is conversant in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. He and his wife are actively involved in the Christian community. He enjoys spending time with his family.

I have been to many dermatologists over the years, I am very particular, and Dr. Chen stands alone at the top. His staff is exceptional as well. I highly recommend.

Very pleasant and very efficient; I have selected Dr Chen above the standard dermatologist for my insurance plan and used him now for several years. And I chose him for my father as well for whom he did a very successful MOHS. Unfortunately, some insurances require that he refer out for MOHS procedure (as does mine).

If you're looking for a very professional, highly qualified physician, Dr. Chen is an exceptional choice. He demonstrates excellent medical focus and care and is one of the best doctors I have seen for dermatology needs. Dr. Chen's support staff also is very efficient and accommodating. Thanks!

After 30 yrs in the med field interfacing with 100's of doctors I can say that Dr Chen is one of the finest among the very best. I am currently getting the 3 treatment pack of saline submission done. After my 2nd treatment, I see a lot of improvement in my acne scars. I would highly recommend Dr Chen because he is so nice, considerate and knowledgeable. The procedure itself hurts slightly when Dr Chen insert the needle/injection, but it isn't anything intolerable. The swelling due to the saline solution lasts about 2 days, and there is very minor bruising (since Dr Chen uses a syringe which is very thin) which lasts about 3-5 days. All in all, a lot of improvement in my rolling scars and I would highly recommend the procedure because of how safe it is and there is pretty much no downtime. And Dr Chen is amazing and highly recommended

I was very pleased with Dr. Chen. He was very professional, courteous, and friendly. He removed a mole, and did a fantastic job. There is minimal scarring, and the procedure itself was virtually painless. I highly recommend Dr. Chen to anybody in need of a great dermatologist.

What a genuinely kind, caring, and professional experience. From the reception area to the check out, I was greeted with a smile, and genuine concern for how my day was going. Dr. Chen took his time to thoroughly explain my options and guide me through the process, and took time to answer all of my questions. My visit was in June 2014.
The doctor was 30 minutes or more late with no explanation. I received the impression he does not want my type of health insurance. He provided a cursory skin cancer screen that I normally have done twice yearly due to personal and family history. The Doctor is man of few words, but responds when asked questions. I just got the impression he had bigger or more profitable things to do. This skin cancer screening is very important to me.
The staff is very nice. It's hard to find a decent dermatologist and get an appointment. I'm not sure what the issue was on this visit. I did not feel valued.

It was great! Dr. Chen was extremely knowledgeable and I felt comfortable talking openly with him about my struggle with acne. Now that I am pregnant my options are limited and he was very well versed about the medication I can and cannot be on and what would be helpful. He listened and was patient, I didn't feel rushed which is something I value especially at a doctors appt.

The staff was very pleasant, very helpful and no one was pushy to force me to buy product. The doctor was very helpful, had some good ideas and he was quite thorough. The facility was clean, staff was great and the doctor was excellent. I just went in for some minor stuff and a general exam and they were very good. I will definitely recommend and will go back next time.

I had a pleasant experience with my first doctor's visit. I checked in via ZocDoc, and that also made it a lot faster. There was no option between "right away" and "less than 30 minutes". :) The wait was not that long at all. Dr. Chen was very nice, calm, professional, and like the other reviewers say here, knowledgeable. I like that he was really talking to me (eye-contact is a big thing for me); he made sure that I was clear with his instructions and took time to answer my questions thoroughly. The actual appointment was good; HOWEVER, when we got there they didn't show our appointment - set up by ZocDoc. ZocDoc had even sent us a confirmation e-mail, and the doctor's office said they didn't show it on their schedule. That's probably why the wait was over 30 minutes.
