Dr. Bryan C. Doonan was born in New Jersey, and raised in Los Angeles. He studied at the University of California San Diego, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology and a Minor in Economics. During the early 90’s, Dr. Doonan, (along with his identical twin brother), were scouted by the popular surfing brand, Quicksilver, and went on to win a national title through the NSSA. Within months of turning pro, however, Bryan suffered an intense ankle injury that had him sidelined for over a year. But in life there are no true “accidents”, as this led him to his path of medical school and his strong passion for sports medicine.
He then received a full scholarship to St. Louis University School of Medicine to obtain his medical degree. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Doonan moved to Newport Beach to begin his internship and residency at the University of California, Irvine. Inspired by his younger years of surfing and skateboarding, Dr. Doonan then started his fellowship in sports medicine at Kramer Orthopedic Group in Newport Beach. At Kramer Orthopedics he learned firsthand from some of the best Orthopedic Surgeons in Southern California.
Dr. Doonan has since opened up five Urgent Care Centers in the Southern California area, as well as a Sports Medicine and Family Practice. Giving back to his community, and volunteering is a big part of his mission. Every year he awards a scholarship to the NSSA college champion, as well as donating his time and generosity to local sports teams in the area.
