Dr. Calvin Williams, a native of Chicago, attended DePaul University. After earning a bachelor’s degree in biological science, he worked as a research assistant at the University of Chicago, studying evolution and neonatal disease models. He later attended Harvard Medical School in Boston, earning his Doctorate of Medicine. He then completed an internship in Internal Medicine, returning back to the University of Chicago Medical Center, before arriving in Dallas for his dermatology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern.
“It was early in my life that I recognized, just how much importance we as a society place on our skin, and how that perceived importance plays a major role in how ‘we’ feel about our appearance and ultimately, about ourselves”, says Dr. Williams. “Our skin, tells our story, and this is why I wanted to become a dermatologist.”
Dr. Williams enjoys taking care a number of skin issues, from eczema, psoriasis, to skin cancer, acne and so on. He enjoys treating patients off all skin types and has a particular interest in skin of color. “Being an African-American, well-cultured dermatologist, has given me insight into the unique problems that arise in darker skin types. It is well known, that some of these issues often get misdiagnosed, as some conditions just plain appear differently depending on the shade of the overall skin. And in particular, if accurate and expedient diagnoses aren’t made, pigmentation issues can become a particularly rampant problem for patients with brown skin.”
In his leisure, Dr. Williams enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, mentoring at-risk youth, or attending sport events.

Dr Williams was calming and very consultative. He did not seem rushed, and took time to ask and answer questions. I have been to other dermatologists who have taken one glace and prescribed a topical. Dr. Williams was the first to really examine my issues and performed a biopsy to be sure.

I was about 20 minutes late and they saw me within 20 minutes. Dr. Williams explained and made recommendations. He accessed my conditional rather fast. Recommended over the counter medication to try and I was very please with his assessment. I feel that the young lady assisting him need to brush up on her people skills and provide information immediately. I had checked out and the people at the front desk had to go and ask her for the notes. She printed the notes and highlighted the information I needed to follow up.
