Charles R. Downey, MD began his private practice of obstetrics and gynecology at Richardson ObGyn in 2004. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association and Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Prior to starting Richardson ObGyn, Dr. Downey served on the Ob/Gyn staff at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, NC and was a surgeon for the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad, Iraq.Dr. Downey earned his medical degree at Texas A&M University Health Science Center in College Station, TX and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, a part of Brooke Army Medical Center/Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.
Dr. Downey is proficient in laparoscopic gynecologic surgery, including surgery for abnormal pap smears. Many procedures are done via the laparoscope, examples include: pelvic pain examination and treatment or removal ovarian cysts or abnormalities.
Dr. Downey lives in Richardson with his wife and 3 children. He enjoys many outdoor activities including golfing, bicycling, and running. The Downey's are active at The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson.
