C. Davenport Hanson attended Harvard University (cum laude, 1964) for his undergraduate career and graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1969 with his M.D. He subsequently attended Georgetown Law, graduating in 1973 with his J.D. His time at Georgetown coincided with a commissioned officer position at the U.S. Public Health Service.
Dr. Hanson completed a rotating internship at the University of Washington and Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. His psychiatric residency was completed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1978, after which he served as Director of Research for the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. and later became Associate Chief of the Department of Psychiatry at the 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany.
Dr. Hanson has taught as part of the faculty at Johns Hopkins Medical School, the University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Psychiatry, George Washington University’s Department of Psychiatry, and Georgetown University’s Department of Psychiatry. He also served as a Consultant to the Admissions Office, Assistant Commandant, and Assistant Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.
Most recently, he has maintained a private practice of general psychiatry; served as a member of the psychiatric staff at Baystate Wing Hospital, and other hospitals and out patient facilities in MA. All inclusive practice.
Since 1991, Dr. Hanson has also served as the President and Executive Director of the WISE (Worldwide Institute Supporting Exchange) Foundation.
Dr. Hanson was board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 1979.
