A native Dallasite Dr. Rutherford graduated from SMU with a degree in biology. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School he completed an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. Seeking further advanced training in Joint Replacement Surgery he completed a year fellowship in Adult Reconstruction Surgery at the Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Rutherford has held positions as Chief of Orthopedics, Chief of Surgery and President of the Medical Staff at Medical City Dallas Hospital.
Dr. Rutherford is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the Texas Medical Association.

There was nothing warm and fuzzy about this office, doctor, or staff. The doctor came across as being arrogant and not at all empathetic. I am overweight and aware of it, but he made me feel like a child being reprimanded, and he said that losing weight is just a matter of mathematics. If that were true, there would be few fat people walking around. I saw him looking at a picture of himself in D Magazine as I was leaving. It made me think that maybe he doesn't want to do my knee surgery, because he thinks I might not be successful and that would sully his record.
