Chris Lakhiani is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at MedStar Washington Hospital Center specializing in functional restoration of the injured limb and facial paralysis reconstruction. He completed his undergraduate at the College of William and Mary, where his interest in translating basic science into clinically safe and effective treatments was awarded with a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Grant as a freshman. A native of New Jersey, Dr. Lakhiani returned to attend medical school at Rutgers University. There, he was awarded the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha research scholarship in medical school to investigate novel anti-inflammatory agents at the University of Sydney while in his first year. He continued to pursue further scientific advancement later in medical school with a dedicated year of research in plastic surgery techniques and tissue imaging at the renowned University of Texas Southwestern Department of Plastic Surgery, under the direction of Dr. Michel Saint-Cyr. Following medical school, he completed his plastic surgery residency training at the internally recognized MedStar Georgetown Plastic Surgery Residency program, where his time spent in the lab or investigating service line safety improvements afforded him numerous awards in clinical excellence, research, teaching, and patient advocacy, as well as the MedStar Resident HeRO of the Year. There, he learned from international leaders in extremity reconstruction, lymphedema, hand, trunk, and breast reconstruction. He later was accepted to the internationally renowned Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan for his fellowship I reconstructive microsurgery.
