I grew up spending a lot of time around children, babysitting, then working as a nanny in college. I always knew that I wanted to work with children, and when I went to medical school, the choice to study pediatrics came naturally.
I love being around kids. It’s a lot of fun to talk to them about their lives, watch them grow up, and become part of their family. I make sure my patients are comfortable when they see me. I try to put them at ease, so that they might see coming to the doctor as a fun thing.
I want parents to know that I always involve them in the decision-making process. I really try to review all the options with the parents and make sure that they are comfortable with the decisions regarding their child’s care.
I think the most rewarding part about pediatrics and medicine in general is that we get to see a child when they are sick and help them to get better.
