This was my first visit

I spent more time in the waiting room filling out the paper work, that I had already completed on this app. Than I did in my actual appointment wit Dr. Shapiro. It seemed very rushed I was only with him for no more than 5 mins. Especially with someone who has experienced chronic ear problems throughout my life I expected a lot more. The front office staff t check in seemed unorganized when I called to confirm my appointment I was kept on hold for more than 10 mins bc the gentlemen couldn’t find my appointment I made on the app. Upon check in they told me you had r pay within exact change that’s something that should be told over the phone or specified on the app. I will not be recommending this office, nor will I be returning.

Went to see Doctor Shapiro who I have seen before. I have always been happy with him and it really pains me to have to leave this review because he appears to be a good doctor and a is a nice guy. Hard to find sometimes, but this is a "purely principle" kind of review. I came in for a checkup due to congestion. I spoke to the doctor for 5 minutes and he told me he was going to use a camera to look up my nose. The procedure took roughly a minute. I paid my co-pay and left. I received a bill that showed a not unsubstantial charge for the office visit and also a VERY substantial charge for the camera "procedure" which resulted in a significant additional copay to me. No mention of additional expense was ever brought up to me and I spent maybe 10 minutes total with the doctor. I called and peacefully explained that what was happening was not right. They said I had signed the insurance and payment disclosures (which a absolutely had) and I told them that while I understood I was legally responsible that this was an extremely poor business practice. It felt to me like buying a car and then receiving a bill for the seats a few weeks later. They agreed to reduce the bill to slightly which I told them I still did not feel was an appropriate resolution. They received in all a very large sum of money for literally 10 minutes worth of their time. Thank god I had insurance because I can't imagine the reaction of someone without insurance unwittingly being given a procedure and then receiving a the bill I got afterwards. South Florida ENT is a corporation with numerous offices around south Florida and they definitely have the corporate attitude. As a result of clinging to a portion of this surprise deductible, they will lose my future business (which I am upset about because I really do like the doctor). This will ultimately cost them WAY more in the long run. The lady I spoke with in billing commented that my problem really lies with the medical system, but as a consumer of a business all I really hear is a cop-out for a practice to provide poor customer service as it relates to responsibly informing patients of [substantial] potential charges beyond what would be normally and reasonably expected. On a local level this business subscribes to business practices that are inconsiderate of their patients wallet and indeed on a macro-scale this is symptomatic of our country's very broken medical and insurance system. After this experience I will be sticking to a small practice with a good doctor.
