D. James Schumer, M.D., founder and Chief Medical Officer of ReVision LASIK and Cataract Surgery Center, is one of the Midwest's most experienced and respected laser vision specialists. As a licensed eye surgeon, ophthalmologist, and cornea specialist, Dr. Schumer has been at the forefront of vision correction for many years.
A recipient of a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Ohio, Dr. Schumer completed his residency at Detroit's Henry Ford Hospital, before receiving a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of Kansas' famed Hunkeler Eye Clinic.
At the time, the Hunkeler Eye Clinic was one of a select few centers in the United States doing FDA clinical trials on the then-investigational excimer laser that ultimately helped the FDA approve the precision excimer laser for vision correction.
When he completed his fellowship, Dr. Schumer was one of the few surgeons in the country trained to do refractive laser surgery. He has published numerous articles on refractive surgery techniques, and has taught surgeons across Canada, Mexico, and South America, even training the first laser eye surgeons in China.
Dr. Schumer soon set up his own facility dedicated to refractive surgery, which became known as, ReVision Advanced Laser Eye Center. ReVision is a state-of-the-art facility where he has performed thousands of refractive surgeries and has participated in important FDA-sponsored research and clinical trials.
Possibly as important as the technical and medical expertise he brings to his patients, is his personal philosophy:
“It’s not the profit/loss statement at the end of the month that is driving us. It’s doing the best we possibly can to take care of the patients who are going through this process. Our entire staff is all on the same page.
