More about Dr. David Goldbloom, MD

I am board certified in both General Adult Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology. I completed my general psychiatry residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, NY and my fellowship in addiction psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. Upon completion of training, I served as the Unit Chief of the Dual-Diagnosis Inpatient Unit at Bellevue Hospital and have faculty appointment at the NYU School of Medicine. In addition to maintaining my private practice in Wayne, NJ, I also serve as the psychiatrist at the Counseling, Health, and Wellness Center at William Patterson University and a nearby Intensive Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Center. As an addiction psychiatrist, I treat patients with common psychiatric disorders such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and PTSD, as well as drug, alcohol, and behavioral addictions. I utilize evidence-based psychotherapies including cognitive behavioral therapy, relapse prevention, and motivational enhancement as well as medication when indicated. I regard mental illness and addiction for the impairments and negative consequences they create in the client's life and work to involve all those affected including clients and their family and friends. I appreciate that a number of factors can bring a client into treatment. Oftentimes, clients present with some degree of ambivalence about whether of not they actually need help (i.e. am I even depressed? I don't have a problem with drinking!). My practice meets all clients where they are at.
