Dr. Manzo graduated with honors from the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science and the Arts in 1980. He then continued to finish in the top 25 percent of his medical school class at the University of Michigan in 1984. He completed four years of postgraduate training including one year of general medicine followed by three years of residency training in Ophthalmology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Ophthalmology and Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Manzo is a member of The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, The Michigan Ophthalmological Society, The Michigan State Medical Society and The Oakland County Medical Society. He has also been honored by The American Medical Association with the Physician’s Recognition Award in Continuing Medical Education.
Dr. Manzo was a senior staff ophthalmologist within the Henry Ford Health System for ten years where he was designated as one of the top 40 doctors in that institution according to a national survey. Dr. Manzo went on to become Medical Director and Chief of Surgery of a state-of-the art surgical center. He is now in private practice in Royal Oak, Michigan. He currently evaluates and treats all aspects of the eye, including disease and surgery of the cornea, excimer laser and incisional keratorefractive surgery (LASIK, PRK, LASEK, RK, and AK), cataract and implant surgery including multifocal and toric options, glaucoma and retinal disease, infectious and inflammatory disease, and neurologic and hereditary disease. He has performed thousands of cataract, implant and refractive surgeries with the most updated techniques and top ranked outcomes resulting in high levels of patient satisfaction. Dr. Manzo has been certified to perform custom Laser Vision Correction for the treatment of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. He has performed lasik surgery since 1996, and has consistently been in the highest percentiles in surgical outcomes. His enhancement/retreatment, infection, decentration, and corneal complication rates have been among the lowest in the country.
Finally, Dr. Manzo is a supporting member of The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, The Easter Seals Society, The American Lung Association, The National Foundation for Cancer Research, MADD-Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Special Olympics, Disabled Veterans Club, Doctors without Borders, and Physicians for Human Rights. In addition, Dr. Manzo is a member of the Founders Society of the Detroit Institute of Arts, The Dante Alighieri Society, The Detroit Zoological Society and The National Arbor Day Foundation.
