Dr. Deepika Sajee Lekawa is a board-certified UCI Health specialist in internal medicine, with a special interest in the health of women and adolescents.
Lekawa earned her medical degree at UCLA's School of Medicine and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
As a medical student, Lekawa was not interested in subspecializing in a particular field of medicine. Instead she wanted to become an internal medicine physician because she enjoys getting to know and treat all aspects of her patients, both physiological and psychological.
“I like putting the whole picture together and treating the whole patient,” she said. “I enjoy getting to know each patient, and I treat them like members of my family. I reward them just as I do my kids and discipline them as I would my own brothers.”
Lekawa loves the art and science of medicine. When she’s not practicing medicine, however, she enjoys traveling the world with her family. She has visited most of the world, but as a Sri Lanka native prefers traveling to Asia.
