Derek Berberian, MD is originally from Upper Saddle River, NJ and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Berberian completed his residency at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and maintains clinical affiliations with Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Holy Name Hospital and Hackensack University Medical Center. Dr. Berberian's focus includes the adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Dr. Berberian has extensive experience working with Veterans and helping patients to cope with post combat trauma. His clinical interests include anxiety, PTSD, OCD, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, weight loss, smoking-cessation, movement disorders, neuropathies, headaches and addiction psychiatry. In addition, he performs outpatient bariatric screening, biofeedback, neurofeedback and EEG evaluation. Dr. Berberian is very involved in serving his community both in the local school districts as well as nursing homes. Outside of the practice of medicine, Dr. Berberian enjoys spending time with his family, and is an avid golfer, NY Giants Fan and Syracuse Orange Fan.

I had great experience at this office. I scheduled my appointment last minute. Dr. Anderson is definitely the best psychiatrist I have seen. Most of the time I feel like the doctors I see really just want to get insurance money and don’t really care about their patients. Dr. Anderson is personable, very understanding and definitely knowledgeable. I felt like she actually cares about me feeling better. I would recommend this office for anyone looking for a psychiatrist. I didn’t feel like just another file. I look forward to following up.

I saw Kori the physicians assistant. I was very nervous about this visit for a number of reasons but the staff could not have been nicer. I mean these are just actual nice people who seem to enjoy being where they are. Additional to that surprise was how actually interested in me Kori was - this was not a “what are you in for okay bye” visit. Because of the questions she asked and the time she took she actually was able to determine a previous diagnosis i had received was incorrect. A diagnosis I had been struggling with for many years. She also didn’t speak down to me like a lot of doctors do. You are treated like a person here. I highly recommend. I wish I had been brave enough to go there years ago.

I appreciate that he goes down the list from my bloodwork even though I may not know some terms, he answers any questions I had about them. I'm so happy that I chose to go to Dr. Berberian. He is very easy to talk to and approaches his patients holistically. He looks to get to the root of the problem, and is not just treating symptoms. I have never been to a psychiatrist that actually tested my blood, and was so glad that he did. I found out that my iron and vitamin D levels are very low, and am now taking supplements. Dr. B is quick to respond when I reach out to him, even responding to text messages. The most frustrating thing is being unable to get in touch with your own doctor! All around a great doctor, highly recommended.

Dr. Berberian made me feel comfortable the second I walked in the door. I have been in and out of doctors offices for the past 5 years and this was the first time I actually felt like the doctor cared. He listened to what my issues were and we worked together to find a solution. I highly recommend seeing him. Very friendly receptionist too! Thank you Zocdoc for helping me find him!

My appointment was ok, kind of hard to make an opinion on first visit as your just going through history and medication. I was under the impression that I wouldn't have to fill out more paperwork and insurance being I did this through zocdoc. But office didn't seem prepared, I will get a better opinion on my 2nd appointment.

Office was clean and a short walk from the bus I took from NYC. Staff was professional and helpful. Dr. Berberian was attentive/focused during our first meeting and was easy to talk to. Looking forward to the follow up visit.

Dr. Berberian is on top of his field. He is ready to solve problems, to help people. He is friendly, he has a sense of humor and he isn't in a rush. His multi-theoretical approach to patient care is complemented by pharmacological expertise. If you're looking for a doctor to help you find the right meds, or to make sure you're not on the wrong meds, while considering the health of both mind and body, as well as your quality of life, he's the doctor you are seeking. Dr. Berberian is an excellent doctor. He is very easy to connect with. So, you are immediately comfortable. What I continue to me most impressed by him is that he volunteered information for natural ways to treat my diagnosis. I had to "pull teeth" to get any semblance of a holistic approach from other doctors. Dr. Berberian is now weaning me off of the unnecessary medications that I was prescribed by my former doctor. It's going well. What's even better is that knowing that I can remain high-functioning with less medication is raising my self-esteem. Knowing this makes me feel like I can live my life to the fullest without a constant reminder of sickness.

I was very impressed by how thorough Dr. Berberian is! He is an excellent physician who takes the time to get to know you and treat you holistically. It's obvious he really cares about his patients and spends the time to listen to you. He also addresses any nutritional deficiencies and other health conditions you have to treat the mind and body as a whole. I've seen several other psychiatrists in the past and he's definitely the best one and top of his field. He knows his stuff! I also felt comfortable enough to open up and tell him about emotions and problems in my life without being judged. In regards to medications, he will work with you to come up with a plan and find what works best. I plan to continue seeing him for the long run and highly recommend him.

A good friend of mine recommended Dr. Berberian and I'm so thrilled to have found him! Knowing that this was my first time in a mental health setting, he put my mind at ease and made me feel less anxious than I thought was possible in this new environment. He took into account all of my recent labs and thyroid/vitamin deficiency issues as well as my emotional and physical symptoms to develop a plan to move forward and get me back to living my life. It was incredibly helpful that he has a few appointments per month on Saturday and a lab down the hall. As someone working full-time in Manhattan, it was absolutely worth the travel. He was warm, caring, knowledgeable, and down to earth. I look forward to continuing our work together.

I have no words to describe how incredible Dr. Berberian is! He took a lot of time getting to know my history both physically and mentally. He also listened to my needs while balancing them with his professional opinions. He had plans for each of my medical issues and then even had a plan B in case certain medicines dont work. Also, he has several hand picked therapists, a nutritionist, an estitition, and theres even a lab down the hall. This was exactly the kind of psychiatrist I always wanted but could never find. He even offered to give me his cell to call or text with questions anytime! I was so impressed that I made an appt. For my husband before the session even ended. Do not look any further than Dr. Berberian and his Dynasty of professionals!

Finally! I'm not exaggerating when I say that I've been looking for the right psychiatrist and/or therapist for years. At last I've found that with Dr. Berberian and his staff. Dr. Berberian takes a dual approach, considering both the medical health of his patients as well as underlying psychological issues. This was perfect for me, and after just a few visits, I'm feeling much better after some changes to medications and addressing treatable medical issues the doctor identified through a blood test. Meanwhile, I'm seeing a great therapist on the Dr's staff for talk therapy.
Dr. Berberian's office is well-managed, up to date with technology, and prompt to respond to concerns and questions by phone or email. Ana, the office manager, takes care of everything promptly and with a smile.
Dr. Berberian is kind, smart, and takes the time to really understand your situation before shoving a prescription at you. He's knowledgeable about traditional and more alternative medicines, but I didn't feel that any approach was being forced on me; he is interested to know what the patient feels most comfortable with. Finally, the doctor was great at helping me understand insurance questions since he's out of my network, and together we developed a plan and schedule that would work for me in terms of my insurance coverage.
