Board-certified orthopedic surgeon Douglas Murphy, MD, brings over 30 years of experience to his patients at Metro Orthopedics & Sports Therapy in Potomac, Maryland. Originally from Illinois, Dr. Murphy completed his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. Since moving to Maryland in 2007, he has been involved with organized medicine at the state and county level. He was the first chief of the medical staff when Holy Cross Germantown hospital opened in 2014 and currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Holy Cross Health.
Dr. Murphy has extensive clinical experience in orthopedics and has been doing anterior and minimally invasive hip replacements almost exclusively since 2011. He has performed thousands of knee replacements and arthroscopic procedures, and takes great care to educate all patients on every option before making a shared decision on what surgical procedure might be the best choice.

Dr didn’t seem to listen to me or care much, was extremely rushed. Sent in a medication at a very odd dose not carried by pharmacies, and have had to go days without it. Struggling to get them to change it so I can pick up my medication. I have called 3 days in a row with no resolve from the Dr.

After experiencing shoulder pain for months and going to physical therapy I selected Metro Orthopedics & Sports Therapy from ZOCDOC because of their orthopedic and sports medicine expertise. I was seen by Dr Douglas Murphy who was very thorough in his examination of my MRI data and he provided his expert analaysis. After explaining my condition and options to me, I opted to try the Plasma Rich Growth Factors (PRGF) procedure and was seen by Dr Joshua Martin who again verified my condition and thorughly explained what the procedure would entail. I was totally satisfied with my visit and look forward to the required procedures.
