Getting to know Duyen Nguyen

*After booking, you will receive a link via IntakeQ so you can complete required intake forms prior to your appointment* As an ANCC board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, I focus on healing through emotional support and empowerment. I hold a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Austin and an Advanced Certificate in Psychiatric-Mental Health from New York University. My background includes five years as a psychiatric registered nurse in the inpatient psychiatry unit at NYU Langone, where I’ve had the privilege of guiding patients through meaningful progress using a combination of therapeutic interventions, medication management, and innovative treatments like ECT. My experience spans a wide variety of psychiatric conditions, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, OCD, PTSD, and borderline personality disorder (BPD). I specialize in working with both young adults and geriatric patients, providing tailored care for each stage of life. Whether you're navigating a life transition or facing a long-standing mental health challenge, I strive to create a therapeutic environment that promotes growth, healing, and the realization that change is possible.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In our sessions, my goal is to make you feel heard, supported, and understood. I firmly believe that you are the expert on your own life, and I’m here to help guide you through the complexities that may be affecting your mental health. My approach is collaborative, and I take the time to truly listen to your story before making any treatment recommendations. Whether you're managing anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health challenges, we will work together to create a plan that makes sense for you—whether that involves therapy, non-pharmacological approaches, or medication management. I understand that beginning psychiatric treatment, particularly medications, can be daunting for some, so I’m here to address any concerns you may have and answer your questions with empathy. My goal is to help you feel comfortable and confident as we explore the best path forward. I work hard to ensure my clients find me approachable, non-judgmental, and dependable—someone they can trust in their journey toward better mental health.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When we start working together, our first session will focus on getting to know you as a whole person—your history, current struggles, and goals for the future. This initial assessment will allow me to gain a comprehensive understanding of your needs so we can develop a treatment plan that feels personalized and effective. I provide a balanced approach, often beginning with non-medication recommendations and focusing on lifestyle factors that could improve your well-being. If medication management is something we discuss, I will always take the time to walk you through the options, explain how different medications work, and address any concerns or hesitations you might have. I understand that many people are cautious about psychiatric medications, and my role is to provide clear, thoughtful guidance so you can make informed decisions about your treatment. Each session will be an open and supportive space for you to share how you're feeling, what’s working, and what might need to change. Ultimately, my goal is to empower you with the tools and support you need to navigate life’s challenges with more ease and hope.
