Dr. Schertz loves kids. Because she gets to treat them from childhood to adulthood, she truly gets to know them and understand when they need that extra special level of care.
As a pediatrician, Dr. Schertz is concerned about children and adolescence spending so much time on computers, tablets and cell phones. She would like to encourage families and friends to get together in person, talk with each other, play cards and board games. "Wisconsin is God's Country – go outside and enjoy nature - swim, hike, ski!"
Outside of work, Dr. Schertz likes to exercise, garden, kayak, cook and laugh with her family. Her husband, kids, and friends are always keeping her on her toes.
Dr. Schertz recommends "take control of social media instead of it controlling you." She would like to see everyone spend less time on social media and to use it wisely. It can bring people together, provide inspiration and information of all kinds, but it can also be risky for young people. Not only are they comparing their lives to each other's, but they are also competing for attention. It can be an unproductive use of time, and in many cases, it can be a safety issue for kids who are sharing too much personal information and interacting with strangers.
