After graduating from Burbank High School, he obtained his bachelor's degree from Duke University and medical doctor degree from the Chicago Medical School. He then trained at Los Angeles County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and returned to Glendale in 2011.
Dr. Avanes Serves on the district board of Los Angeles County Medical Association and is an active member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the Armenian-American Medical Society. I never knew doctors like this existed! Dr Avanes was so patient, understanding, and very thorough with his assessment regarding my health. He listened to everything I needed him to know and he came up with a plan get me back on the right track. His medical assistant, Sela, was just as wonderful! She went through everything to be sure all was accurate on my new patient profile. I am forever grateful!

The offIce is beautiful and efficient, it appears to run like clockwork but not in an impersonal way, the entire staff is warm and engaging. Doctor Avanes is thoughtful and personable, I switched to this office after having a terrible, inefficient, and often belligerent doctor and office who made me feel like I was wasting his time. Doctor Avanes is the polar opposite, he listens and is focused and conscientious. He answered questions I have had that were previously brushed off by physicians.
I am so glad to have found this office and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Went to Harmony MD for my check-up and had the best experience ever. Front desk was very helpful and I was seen whithin minutes of completing my chart. I was seen by Dr. Avanes and I did not have to wait long for him to see me. He went over all my health complaints and we discussed a plan of how to get to where I want to be with my health. He was very patient and understanding and the check-out was very fast and easy as well. I would definitely go back to him and will highly recommend Dr. Avanes to my friends and family. Keep up the good work.

Very friendly service at this doctors office from the desk check-in to the exam.
One particular thing that stood out to me about Dr. Avanes compared to other doctors I've had is how helpful he is in walking you through what is going on with you, as well as why the course of action we ultimately decided to take was the right way to go.
There are many doctors closer to me than this one, but I plan to keep coming back because they just treated me right and really seemed to go the extra mile.

I went in for a vaccination, and it was a quick, painless visit. Pun intended. For certain vaccinations one doesn't need to have a full appointment with Dr. Avanes, which was convenient for me in this case. After making an appointment, their staff called to say I could just stop by and receive the shot.

One of the most kind, funny – yet professional – doctors I have encountered. He really eases the tension of the creepiness and formality of a doctor's visit. Very laid back guy, yet really efficient and professional. The nurses are very nice as well. The offices are beautiful.

I really enjoyed meeting Dr. Avanes. He was kind, conscientious and thorough. His staff was incredibly sweet and attentive. He answered all my questions, and helped to work with me to make a plan for monitoring and staying healthy. I feel super excited that I finally have a primary care physician that I know and trust.

This was perhaps the best first office visit ever. Dr. Avanes is a rock star -- smart, knowledgeable, personable, articulate, patient, concise, and willing to listen. What a great person he is. I liked him immediately. He spent a lot of time with me reviewing my health issues, and giving me clear, practical counsel. The office staff is outstanding as well, and I was seen precisely at the appointed hour, with zero wait time. The office is impeccably clean and beautifully appointed. I could not possibly say enough good things about this doctor and this office. I am recommending them to all my friends.

Dr Avanes is a fantastic doctor, and one of the select few in the Crescenta Valley area that won't rush you in and out. He takes the time needed for quality care,the office is clean and beautiful with lobby refreshments and a lovely staff to boot.
Also, in office lab which is convenient!

Refreshing, modern approach to family medicine. Spent all the time I needed to go thru my medical history, answer questions, review my options and presented a plan to improve my health that makes sense to me. Emil has a gentle, engaged manner that I really appreciate. He's both sensitive and down to earth. Beautiful new office too, a competent and friendly team at the front desk. I'm rellay glad I found this practice (thanks ZocDoc!).
