Having been raised in Dunedin since the age of 2, there was no question of where I would be practicing medicine once I completed my education and training. The growth and changes I have seen in the Tampa Bay area have been quite astonishing. One thing has not changed: the love that people have for this area and the community.
I love practicing otolaryngology for every aspect that the specialty provides. The ability to treat all types of disorders of the head and neck from both medical and surgical means offers a unique challenge that is not found in many other specialties. Also, I enjoy being able to treat patients of all age ranges, both adult and pediatric, so I truly can say that I am at the service of my entire community.
After completing my residency training, I began my career serving as the Chief of Ear, Nose, and Throat at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center in Pinellas County. Being the only full time physician of my specialty serving our nation’s veterans in southwest Florida from Tarpon Springs to Naples was a huge responsibility but an even greater privilege. In my five years there, my patients taught me not only to become a more compassionate physician and surgeon, but also to be a more responsible citizen.
I am thrilled to have joined ENT Associates in September 2012. I have known many of my partners for years as mentors, college classmates, or co-residents, and it is now an honor to join them as a colleague. It is great to be a part of a group of physicians and staff that puts the changing needs of an ever-growing community first and foremost in every aspect of patient care.

After searching for ENT's in the area, this was one of the few that was able to get me in to see a Dr. for sinus issues. Dr. Merchant is quick and efficient and does a fairly good job answering questions and making you feel comfortable. He moves at a very quick pace, so ensure you layout any and all questions you have quickly so that nothing gets missed. Now the bad: 1. Dr. ordered CT scan of sinuses, had CT scan at major hospital network tied to dr., ended up having to deliver my own results to the doctor (because for whatever reason, they couldn't get a courier or pull up the results). 2. Had sinus surgery, almost passed out due to pain, nurses in the room were like deer in headlights as I turned ghost white and almost blacked out. Only saving grace was the 3rd party company rep that was assisting the staff on the new instrument. He was a combat medic in the army and noticed that I was in trouble...was the only one who acted instantly, while the rest of the actual office staff watched him work. 3. Billing, all I can say is, good luck and hope you have extra cash lying around, even if you have really good insurance. 4. Due to billing and other issues, filed complaint with insurance company and obviously won't be back.

I did not have to wait for more than 20 minutes to be seen. When they call to confirm the appointment they give you all the instructions so you can come prepare. Dr Merchant was very professional and answer all my questions. I am very pleased with this visit.
