Dr. McGuigan was great! Please note he is a very busy physician, so he will seem in "rush," but he did answer all my questions. He also did a thorough exam and reviewed all of the MRI images/previous doctor notes I gave him. The office has a policy that all prescriptions and medical out of office notes must be relayed directly to him while he is in the room, so I recommend writing out all your questions and your needs before seeing him.

I wasn’t particularly encouraged by my appointment with him. While the office’s support staff was excellent, Dr McGuigan ultimately saw me for no more than three minutes—truly. He seemed kind, but in a rush. He didn’t even ask me about my symptoms; he only did a very brief physical exam of my ankle. He spoke to his intern who was taking notes more than he spoke to me. He didn’t explain much of anything to me, and he seemed impatient to move to the next patient whenever I tried to ask a question. I recognize that he is likely correct in his diagnosis and perhaps in the course of treatment he recommended, but I’ve booked a second opinion with another specialist in the hopes of getting a fuller idea of my problem.

I knew Dr. McGuigan when he was at Bethesda. He is an honest hard working doctor and goes the extra mile for his patients. I had both feet operated on by him. He elongated by big toe with my own bone marrow and crafted a metal plate to make it fuse together.
I can back today after many years for a couple of bone spurs. He is going to remove them and it was so nice to see him again. Just as friendly and professional as before.

Dr. McGuigan is an excellent surgeon and did a very nice job with a my difficult case of complex ankle fracture in the setting of osteoporosis. I would recommend him to other patients for his surgical expertise.

I did not understand at all what was going on. This was horrible service. He didn't make me aware of what happened to my ankle and how to heal. I got my boot off today and I asked how to begin to walk without it because I was nervous, understandably, and he said "slowly". Absolutely no sympathy from him and felt terribly confused and rushed during the appointment. Saw him for 3 minutes and he barely gave me a chance to ask any questions or comprehend anything he told me. I am so angry with this and very frustrated. No idea where to go from here because I got absolutely no information. He barely described how my ankle was coming along. I cannot stress enough times how frustrated and angry I am with this appointment.

Dr McGuigan was not very communicative during the interview and seemed reluctant to answer questions. He also did not take time to show me the images from my surgery although they were taken nearly 2 weeks ago. He was not very helpful when I indicated my difficulty in non-weight bearing due my handicap. I did not feel he was very compassionate. My husband felt the same way.

The doctor was honest, thorough, and pleasant. I wish I had seen him when I first had the issue instead of the other doctor I saw at Inova who exacerbated the injury. He explained what he saw in the x-ray, what he believed to be the issue, and what the next steps would be. He provided guidance on how to improve efficiency in the treatment and how best to schedule the procedure with a follow up so he could attend to the results quickly.

Dr. McGuigan is the best! When a bad accident happened landing me in the ER, I found myself in the care of Dr. McGuigan to create a treatment plan. He is every bit the rock star! Dr. McGuigan listens, is thoughtful, does not rush decisions, and is thorough. We have navigated each and every step being informed and feeling equipped with the next steps in the treatment plan and healing process. I am currently at my six-month mark since the original accident and have regained significant mobility and am healing very well! I am so grateful to Dr. McGuigan and his expertise. Accidents happen, and medical doctors like Dr. McGuigan are the true professionals you want to have as your expert surgeon to help you get back to being whole.

We have past experience with Dr. McGuigan. He performed my wife's ankle surgery. He did a remarkable job. She was pain free after 5 years in misery. Today I saw him for a consult of my left foot. I had X-rays taken first. He thoroughly explained my condition and my options. I have decisions to make but he gave me excellent advice going forward. Would HIGHLY recommend him!

I was getting a 3rd opinion since I received conflicting surgical recommendations from other doctors. Dr. McGuigan is the only one who listened carefully to my symptoms and offered a clear explanation of my condition. He is also the only doctor who seemed concerned about getting the treatment right.

The office called me a week before appt to ask me to come at 7:30 for xrays. I showed up and 7:25 and no one seemed to know why I was brought in early. Once staff started seeing me at 8:00 and I got xrays and saw the doc I was out before 8:30.

Dr. McGigan is clearly very knowledgable. I did, however feel a bit rushed towards the end of gym visit. I know doctors aren't accustomed to spending much time with patients, especially after I was seen by an intern but mid-question he stood up and continued to stand as I was going down my list. It would have been more considerate to sit back down for the minute or so it took me to finish my questions as opposed to making me feel like I had already taken up too much of his time. Otherwise, I feel confident he is the best doctor for my care.

He's a highly qualiied foot and ankle surgeon. He's working in a clinic set up just for his specialty, so everything goes super-smoothly. He takes his time with you, listens to what you say, explains very carefully and thoughtfully. He's a genuinely nice person who is very pleasant to interact with. 2nd surgery Dr. McGuigan as performed for me, and I am completely satisfied with both. His skills are the best anywhere. I am very happy with the outcome both times. Get involved - you need to take an active part in your health care, have a good attitude, and do what they tell you to do. That is the key to a good outcome. He is human just like we are, and might have an off day at the bedside, but his skill is beyond question in my opinion, and the entire team at the foot and ankle center the best anywhere.

This was my first visit, I was attended to by 5 staff members. I was evaluated by Dr. McGuigan's assistant who informed the Dr. of my history and current problem. This advanced information enabled the Dr. to get right down to business when I was seen by him. Was pleased with the service.
I was disappointed that none of my medical information that I completed through ZocDoc was received at the doctors office. I had to furnish the information all over again in the office.
