More about Dr. Frederick Mindel, CNS, DC

www.newyorkholistichealthcare.com I am a Certified Nutritionist, Holistic Healthcare Specialist, Doctor of Chiropractic and Board Certified in Integrative Medicine and have been practicing in NYC for over 25 years. I offer something that is rare in NYC: nutritional expertise and guidance in the context of a truly holistic approach to health. “Holistic”, a word often loosely thrown around today, really means addressing the whole person. Why is this so important? Nutrition cannot be separated from the overall balance of the “whole person” and the beneficial effects of proper nutrition will be limited and compromised by other underlying “imbalances”. What are some of these underlying imbalances? They include: 1) Energy depletions - We must have enough and the right kind of energy for the body to properly utilize nutrition. If not enough energy the body works in slow motion- too sluggish. Many today have too much “stress energy” (sympathetic nervous system) and not enough “healing energy” (parasympathetic), which interferes with all aspects of nutrition, digestion and metabolism. 2) Toxins – Endotoxins (from within) are our waste products that are not properly broken down and eliminated. Exotoxins (from without) - include over 80,000 chemicals which we are exposed to each week along with other environmental toxins such as heavy metals and free radicals. These greatly deplete our nutritional reserves and interfere with proper utilization. 3) Microbes - in addition to virus and bacteria, many people today suffer from some combination of mold, yeast, fungus and parasites, which often grow within our bodies and cause significant interference with health, nutrition and weight loss. Elimination requires specific, targeted nutrition. 4) Other imbalances such as nervous system interference, hormonal imbalances, structural misalignments and systemic inflammation must also be properly addressed. Nutrition is a lot more complicated than it is often made out to be. For example: 1) Must determine proper diet and supplements for each person, which is not so easy because individual needs vary greatly. Neither a “one size fits all” approach or assuming that everyone needs the latest new fad or discovery will work. What will help person A will make no change in person B and person C will get worse. How do I know? Because I have been doing this for over 25 years. 2) Too much of anything, including natural supplements is no good. Also, proper nutrition is often as much about the balance among different nutrients as it is about actual quantitative levels. 3) It is not what you take but what you utilize. So many people today are taking a lot of supplements that are going right through them without being utilized. Proper utilization requires a) proper breakdown in the digestive tract b) proper absorption into the bloodstream c) proper transport to the part of the body that needs it d) proper elimination of waste products. These digestive problems must be corrected. 4) Must be able to assess food sensitivities/allergies. 5) Must determine what foods and supplements are optimal for each person and conversely which ones are having a negative effect. 6) Must only use supplements of the highest quality, sold only to healthcare professionals. 7) Must be able to accurately assess changing needs- critical because nutritional requirements often change. We address all these factors (and more). How do we do this? Through our unique holistic approach. I have spent over 25 years in search of the most effective ways to help people get well and stay well. The result is a rare integration of 14 major methods of healing. No other doctor in NYC utilizes all these methods. This enables me to help you, in addition to your nutritional needs, with a wide variety of other problems you may be suffering from. More specifically, I use nutritional response testing (muscle testing) which is a very accurate type of biofeedback where the body gives precise information about what it really needs and the precise order or sequence to follow. This is a brilliant tool which I have been using for over 25 years. It provides a level of accuracy and specificity which, in my experience, no other method of nutritional analysis equals, including: blood tests, skin pricks, patch tests, elimination diets, questionnaires, food journals and the like. This sets us apart from most other nutritionists. It is non-invasive, adds no additional cost (conventional lab testing often becomes quite expensive), gives the most accurate “real-time” answers and enables us to assess your changing needs. It allows us to know which foods and supplements are optimal for you and which ones need to be avoided (and for how long, since once the “whole person” is properly balanced most people can return to eating most healthy things). We take the guesswork out of diet and nutrition. Re: Insurance Although we are out-of-network with most insurance plans, you may still get coverage. More than half of our patients use their insurance here. Plans that cover us are: United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Guardian, BCBS, Nippon and Oxford. If you have one of these insurance plans, to get coverage here, you must have out-of-network chiropractic coverage on your plan as well as have satisfied an out-of-network deductable. If you are unsure, give us a call and we will find out your coverage status. We also offer a very flexible payment plan that is interest free and has no credit check involved, and a “new patient discount”.
