Dr. Myers completed his undergraduate education in his hometown of State College Pennsylvania at Pennsylvania State University, receiving his B.S. Degree in Chemistry and Physics in under 3 years, with Phi Beta Kappa honors. He proceeded to medical school at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, located in Philadelphia, PA, graduating in 1969, then completing his 1 year internship at the University of Pittsburg. His Internal Medicine and Cardiology fellowship were completed at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina from 1970 to 1973. Following his years at Duke University, he continued his studies in Washington, DC at Georgetown University and Children’s Hospital National Medical Center where he completed his adult and pediatric invasive cardiology training. Between 1975 and 1977 Dr. Myers served in the capacity of Lt. Commander and Cardiologist, concentrating in adult and pediatric cardiology, in the United States Navy at Portsmouth Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth Virginia. During these years, Dr. Myers spent much time publishing articles focusing on cardiac care - discovering a new disease he termed, “cervico-precordial angina” which he subsequently presented at an annual meeting of the American College of Cardiology, and which was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (1977). Following his years of service, Dr. Myers moved to Sarasota, Florida to establish a private cardiology practice. During his first years in Sarasota, Dr. Myers was instrumental in co-developing the first cardiac catheterization laboratory at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. In 1985 he founded the first free-standing outpatient cardiac catheterization laboratory in the U.S. to receive JCAH, AA-HC and ambulatory care certification.
