George Grunberger, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.E. received his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine, internal medicine training at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and Endocrinology/Metabolism training in the Diabetes Branch at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
Between 1986 and 2002 he directed the Comprehensive Diabetes Programs at both the Detroit Medical Center and Wayne State University. Early in his career, Dr. Grunberger saw the need for a comprehensive diabetes treatment facility where persons with diabetes could receive specialized care and address the many facets of their disease. The Grunberger Diabetes Institute is the result of his vision.
Dr. Grunberger is also Clinical Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and in the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics at the Wayne State University School of Medicine and Professor at the Oakland University William Beaumont Medical School. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and the American College of Endocrinology. He is the Immediate Past President of the Michigan Chapter of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (2006-2011). Additionally, he served on its national Board of Directors between 2006 and 2012. He currently serves on the Executive Committee and is Vice President of AACE. He has been elected by his peers for inclusion in the Best Doctors in America® every year between 2001 and 2013.
