Great doctor and his student was thorough as well. Would appreciated if the front desk had informed me earlier that I needed the insurance card at the appointment because it seemed unusual to them to use an electronic form however they were able to accommodate. Dr. Van Pala's philosophy is "to understand and treat the patient as a whole, I feel it is critical to not only thoroughly understand the complexities of modern medicine but to also address the individual as a whole and diagnosis the underlying problem."
Dr. Van Pala is Yale University trained and is a board certified Internal Medicine physician and a board certified Gastroenterologist.
Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Van Pala earned a degree in Pharmacy from St. John's University School of Pharmacy in New York, New York in 1974. Dr. Van Pala practiced as a registered Pharmacist for two years specializing in compounding pharmacy. In 1980 Dr. Van Pala graduated from Michigan State College of Human Medicine and proceeded to train for five years in the Yale University School of Medicine residency and fellowship program from 1980 to 1985. Dr. Van Pala first became licensed to practice medicine in 1983 and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. Van Pala perfected his desire to achieve medical excellence by passing the challenging Internal Medicine Maintenance of Certification Exam in 2010 and the rigorous Full Certification Exam in Gastroenterology in 2013, a remarkable feat considering Dr. Van Pala first became licensed to practice medicine over thirty years ago. Over the years Dr. Van Pala has maintained his expertise by completing 2500 hours in Category 1 Continuing Medical Education.
From 2012 to 2013, Dr. Van Pala spent an additional year in advanced Internal Medicine training at Georgia Regents University, formerly known as the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta, Georgia. Dr. Van Pala recently completed a restorative medicine course and became a fellow-candidate in A4M, American Academy of Anti-Aging & Regenerative Medicine

Honestly if it were not for the importance of my check-up, I would have left due to an hour and a half wait before the doctor came in. Not only that but no one once checked in on me and someone at the front desk was having a very heated discussion where I could hear the whole conversation sitting in a room waiting for my doctor. But Dr. Henry changed my mind about the facility. He is a very caring and concerned gentleman who focuses strictly on you during the appointment. His kindness and hospitality is definitely the only reason why I would come back.

My wait time in the front was 4-5 minutes and I was early to my appointment so that was delightful. I had to wait for Dr. Henry for a while as he was short staffed and backed up but he was a pleasure to speak with. He showed me exactly where my issue was on the digital board and pointed me to how to correct it. I'll be going back for future visits for sure!!!

Because I travel full time for work, it has been difficult for me to find and stay with a doctor consistently. Dr. Vanpala will definitely be a doctor I stay with. His is always able to schedule me in, I rarely have to wait at all, and (above all) he has a winning personality. I very much dislike going to the doctor, but I have enjoyed my interactions and experience with Dr. Vanpala every time!

Dr. Van Pala is an excellent doctor who took his time with me and truly listened. The front office staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I would recommend this doctor to anyone, he's fantastic!

I have been a patient of Dr. Van Pala for several months. Rating this practice on a scale of 1-10, I would rate the office 3 or even a 2. Dr. Van Pala is a kind, empathetic, humble, with a great bedside manner and caring. His nurse can be described as a "babbling idiot". She is a detriment rather than an asset to this medical practice. If you are looking for lectures from her, no follow up calls this is not the office you want to be going to. I have asked for data/test results to faxed to my health insurance carrier several times and then am told it has been faxed. Later, after contacting the health carrier, they state they have received nothing from this office. This occurs nine out of ten times. The problem I believe stems from the nurse who fails to send the information and then informs Dr. Van Pala, her husband, that it was faxed. My belief is that she keeps him in the dark. Needless to say efficacy of this medical provider is poor.
Calling the office one day, I spoke with the nurse asking her to send data/test results to a company that manufacturers a particular medication. She informed me that it would be sent and she would call me the following day. The next day arrives and passes, no call. I wait a week for a response...nothing. I called and spoke to her again about the matter and she quickly informed me that she was very busy and that they were taking care of very sick people. In other words, my needs were not important or/and insignificant. The son also works in the office. I "mailed" step by step instruction and with the necessary paperwork to be submitted to them which needed to be in turn sent to the insurance. The son called and stated he did not have all the data needed to fax the paperwork I filled out. I told him that they indeed had it as Dr. Van Pala had read the results for three different blood tests. He curtly told me NO that they did not have it. I told him that supposedly his mother (office nurse) had faxed it previously to a manufacturer. He put me on hold and found the info. After a couple of days I check with the insurance they received nothing. So either he was calling me a liar or his dad, Dr. Van Pala. Recently my pharmacy sent a fax, along with my Rx insurance requesting information. Nothing was done to respond to the two faxes. It wasn't until I wrote to Dr. Van Pala was any action taken.
The receptionist is pleasant enough, but is never able to answer questions, she passes you onto someone else.
If you simply need medication refills that can be called in then there is no problem, however, anything beyond this nothing gets done.

The doctor was great, however the wait was extreme. I wasn't seen until 11:30 for a 10:30 appointment. I had all of my paperwork done electronically, so maybe I was too efficient for the staff?

Dr. Van Pala is a very patient friendly doctor and has a good bedside manner. However, on my first visit, my insurance was being difficult to process. Instead of just seeing me while everything got straightened out, the nurse made me wait 2 hours until it was completely perfect because of course they weren't going to see me without getting their money.
When I lost my job and my insurance ended, they would not work with me on the cost or let me be on any type of payment schedule. Again, it was all about the money.
Today when I called to make an appointment, they flat out refused to refill any of my prescriptions because I had not been seen yet. I am om meds for high bp, Crohns disease and anxiety. Being off of any of these meds can cause serious health problems and even suicide. I was not only disappointed, but feel like I was getting a lecture from the nurse and it was very uncomfortable. I have decided to go to a different primary care doctor and I pray that this one will have a nurse and staff that actually care about the patient instead of when they are going to get paid.
