Dr. Howard Farkas is the founder and President of Chicago Behavioral Health, LLC and its telehealth practice, Equipoise Teletherapy, specializing in the treatment of emotional eating and binge eating disorder. He is a licensed clinical health psychologist who has been working and teaching in the field for over 25 years.
Dr. Farkas is the author of the book, 8 Keys to End Emotional Eating (Norton 2019) in which he describes his unique and highly effective approach to the treatment of emotional eating and binge eating disorder. His approach emphasizes the importance of autonomous control in motivating behavior change. The need for autonomy is a key factor in emotional eating, which has been shown to be linked to a history of dieting and restrictive eating. Challenging the diet mentality with an autonomy-supportive approach can eliminate the motivation for unwanted eating.
Dr. Farkas serves on the faculty of Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, where he teaches in the Division of Clinical Psychology.
