Dr. Ira Klonsky recieved his medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma De Guadalajara in 1977. He did his first year of training at New York Medical College and then completed five years of surgical training at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center. Dr Klonsky has been in private practice since 1983 and has been a senior partner of South Shore Surgical located in Valley Stream. He is a member of many professional organizations including the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, Inter-American College of Physicians and Surgeons, American College of Physician Executives, Associate American Professional Wound Care Associates. Dr. Klonsky has been a surgical attending at Franklin Hospital since 1986. He came to Franklin and brought with him new and exciting expertise in surgery. He pioneered the first minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery at Franklin and was the first surgeon to perform laparoscopic gallbladder surgery at this institution. Dr. Klonsky continues to be a pioneer in this field and is now performing state of the art minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures including colon surgery at Franklin. Dr. Klonsky was one of the catalysts in opening our state of the art wound care and hyperbaric medicine center. Dr. Klonsky has served Franklin as a member of the Board of Trustees and is now a member of the Medical Executive Committee. He is presently the chairman of the Medical Records Committee and the Medical Ethics Committee. He is an active member of the Community Advisory Board and serves on many other committees in the hospital.
