Dr. James R. Edgar graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine (New Orleans) in 1971. After completing a one-year medical internship at St. Mary’s Hospital, San Francisco, California, he matriculated to the psychiatric residency training program at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) completing it in 1975. He is also a graduate of the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute and is certified in adult psychoanalysis by the American Psychoanalytic Association. Dr. Edgar was an Instructor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and was in private practice in San Francisco from 1975 until 1979 when he moved to Tampa. Since moving to Tampa, Dr. Edgar has focused mostly on the private solo practice of psychiatry and psychoanalysis. However he has also been active as a Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at the University of South Florida School of Medicine and a member of the Tampa Psychoanalytic Society.
