Dr James M. Wheeler is a reproductive endocrinologist and gynecologist focusing on the clinical areas of infertility, menopause, polycystic ovaries, insulin resistance, contraception and well woman care. Dr. Wheeler brings an unusual variety of education and experience in the care of his patients. He is also an epidemiologist and statistician, to better help patients analyze and understand clinical studies pertinent to their health, and an attorney, another method by which he learns of potential problems in healthcare today.
Dr. Wheeler is originally from upstate New York, but he moved to Texas as soon as he could. He attended Harvard College on a full scholarship, and was that institution’s first graduate with the double major of Biology and Psychology/Social Relations, for which he was awarded magna cum laude. He next went to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston on a full scholarship, and then four years of OB/GYN residency, completed in 1986. From 1986 to 1988, Dr Wheeler moved to Yale University School of Medicine where he completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology/Infertility and was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. Also during that time, he earned his M.P.H. from the Yale University School of Public Health, awarded distinction in biostatistics. Dr. Wheeler practiced clinically as an instructional professor at Yale, then Baylor. He practiced clinically in an academic setting at Yale then Baylor until 1994, after which he moved to private practice. He graduated from the University of Houston Law Center, and passed the Texas Bar exam, in 2005. In July 2006, Dr Wheeler was implanted with a device for a cardiac arrhythmia that prevents h

I just had my first appointment with Dr. Wheeler and was very impressed with him and his staff. Everyone was warm and friendly from my first conversation on phone with Marla (I hope to have remembered all of their names correctly) to my appointment Dr. Wheeler and the follow up with his assistant Patricia. He was very perceptive and knowledgeable and put me at ease. I will be making another appointment with Dr. Wheeler in the future.

Dr. Wheeler is honestly the best doctor there is. I recently relocated to Dallas, TX and the thought of replacing him has never crossed my mind. The 5 hour commute back to Houston is always well worth it.

Dr. Wheeler was very pleasant and thorough with my exam. He explained everything to me for me to understand what was going on. He also is very knowledgeable and helpful with questions I had, however, towards the end I felt a bit rushed but nothing too bad maybe because he didn't want to fall behind with other patients so I felt I still needed clarification but I understand he can't hold me in forever:)..
