Meeting Dr. Mc Pherson was an absolute pleasure. I was anxious after Dr. Paul left and somewhat unclear about my condition. Dr. Mc Pherson explained my CT scan and offered a visual so that I was able to understand. He is a consummate professional and has a wonderful and engaging personality.

James McPherson, MD, MPH, FACS is a member of Summit Health's Thoracic Surgery team. Dr. McPherson is board-certified in thoracic surgery and specializes in the early diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment of lung cancer. With over twenty years of experience, he is skilled in performing video- and robotic-assisted surgery to treat diseases of the chest. He expertly practices endovascular surgery, an innovative, minimally invasive procedure used to treat thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms. Additionally, he administers Varithena (polidocinal injectable foam 1%), a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins and performs the Laser Ablation, a highly effective treatment for chronic venous insufficiency. Dr. McPherson prioritizes building trust with his patients by way of providing thorough explanation of diagnoses and treatment options. He recognizes each patient’s unique needs and goals and works to develop a treatment plan that can best address them. “My goal is to guide my patients through the surgical portion of their lung cancer journey,” he says. “They can then return to their families and back to active living.” In his free time, Dr. McPherson enjoys playing tennis, cycling, scuba diving, and watching college football (with a “Fight On!” for his University of Southern California Trojans). He has made numerous television and radio appearances discussing heart, lung, and vascular disease. With a passion for teaching, Dr. McPherson mentors students who are interested in pursuing medical careers. He is also fluent in Spanish.

I reported in and took a seat in the waiting room. In a few minutes one of the staff came out and told me the Dr. was running late and I would be taken in later. It was OK because they had the manners to let me know what was going on. Not letting me sit there waiting and waiting. It only took that little gesture to smooth over a sticky situation. I would also like to compliment the support staff. They were amazing, preping the room and preping me. I felt very comfortable and secure.
