Following a rotating internship at Ben Taub General Hospital in Houston, he spent two years in active duty as a general medical officer, United States Army. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is board certified in the specialty of ophthalmology.
