Double Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatrics and Primary Care Sports Medicine, Dr. James Sedlis is fellowship trained in Sports Medicine by the American Sports Medicine Institute under the supervision of Dr. Larry Lemak. Dr. Sedlis first joined Lemak Health in 2013 and comes to us with over 15 years of experience in both Pediatrics and Sports Medicine.
A graduate of Pomona College in California, Dr. Sedlis received his MD from New York Medical College and completed a Pediatric Residency at New York University Medical Center.
He currently serves as the team physician for Helena High School, Helena Middle School and the University of Montevallo. Prior to joining Lemak Sports Medicine, Dr. Sedlis served as the team physician for Samford University and Hueytown High School as well as volunteering as the doctor at Team Magic and Birmingham Track Club running events.
Through his extensive experience in working with student athletes, Dr. Sedlis has developed a strong interest in concussion care and is certified in the use of ImPACT testing, a Neurocognitive computerized concussion evaluation system utilized in concussion management. As one of only a select few physicians in the State of Alabama who is certified in ImPACT testing, Dr. Sedlis is considered the local expert in concussion management. He uses the ImPACT protocol to track recovery of cognitive processes following sports concussions and support safe return to play for athletes.
Dr. Sedlis has 2 sons, Aaron and Jared and in his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, running, and downhill skiing. If he is not outdoors, he can be found at the Pelham Civic and Ice Arena where his sons are active in the Ice Hockey and Figure Skating programs.
