More about Dr. Jay Rudd, MD

Dr. Rudd is Thurston County's first board-certified cornea specialist and one of the few fellowship-trained refractive surgeons in the United States. He is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles and Philadelphia's Jefferson Medical College where he graduated magna cum laude. In June 1999 he completed his residency at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital, one of U.S. News & World Report's top three ophthalmology centers. He went on to obtain fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of Utah's John A. Moran Eye Center, one of just three centers in the U.S. that offers this advanced level of training. Dr. Rudd has participated in FDA trials for implantable corrective lenses. He has also performed significant clinical research in other areas of ophthalmic surgery. Most recently, he authored Complications of Refractive Surgery, an extensive surgical review for a leading ophthalmology textbook. Dr. Rudd specializes in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery using emerging technologies like intra-ocular lens implants, high frequency ultrasound and no-stitch and micro-incision surgery to minimize patient discomfort and recovery times. Dr. Rudd is active in his community and serves on the board of the Providence St. Peter Hospital Foundation. Dr. Rudd and his wife Carla, live in Olympia with their three children, Allyson, Justin & Lindsay.
