Dr. Jeehee Kim has been serving the people of Silicon Valley and Greater San Francisco Bay Area of California since Polaris Eye & Laser, Inc., opened in September of 2006. Dr. Kim is one of the few fellowship-trained cornea specialists practicing in the South Bay.
A native of San Jose, California, she graduated from Lynbrook High School in San Jose in 1983 as a valedictorian. She attended Northwestern University in Illinois for her undergraduate study, graduating with distinction in 1987 and completed her medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Her involvements in molecular science research earned her PEW Research Fellowship at the prestigious Rockefeller University in New York City where her research on diabetes was published in a peer-reviewed journal. She then finished a medical internship at Harbor General Hospital in Torrance, California, a major UCLA teaching hospital, followed by ophthalmology residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. After her residency, she performed her specialty fellowship training in Cornea/External Disease and Refractive Surgery at Duke University Eye center.
She was recruited by the ophthalmology department at the University of Washington in Seattle, joining their faculty in 1997 as a cornea and refractive surgery specialist. While functioning as an assistant professor, she established a cornea subspecialty clinic at the Seattle VA Hospital and Tacoma VA Hospital in Washington. During the seven years of her professorship at the University of Washington, she taught and trained Cornea Fellows in Refractive Surgery and numerous residents in clinical and surgical ophthalmology and cornea subspecialty. In 2004, she moved to Mt. Vernon, Washington, to join North Cascade Eye Associates as the Director of Refractive Surgery and Cornea Service, until opening her own practice in San Jose, CA.
Dr. Kim is known for her surgical expertise in managing complex cataract and cornea cases and has extensive experience with LASIK, LASEK and PRK laser refractive procedures. She has published in prominent peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals and has given numerous presentations at regional and national meetings.

Dr Kim was very personable and thorough. I appreciated the time she took to answer all of my questions and concerns and to help me decide whether to get glasses for my stigmatism. Her receptionist was very kind also and helped me pick out my frames. The medical assistant was also very considerate. I had to bring my 2.5 year old son with me to the appointment and they were very accommodating about the situation, even though I was in the office for about 1.5 hours. As someone who is always concerned about inconveniencing others, it means a lot when people can put me at ease about having a toddler in their office. It was a very good experience overall and I highly recommend Dr Kim and her staff.
