Joel Nilsson is a compassionate and engaging orthopedic surgeon serving his patients in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Nilsson is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and certified to perform surgery of the hand. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Nilsson received his medical education at Georgetown University, and then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Texas Tech University at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center. During his residency program, Dr. Nilsson was serving in the United States Army, a service that lasted 14 years. Dr. Nilsson completed his fellowship in hand surgery at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Nilsson has an affinity for treating and operating on complex hip and knee replacements. Dr. Nilsson performs many cutting-edge procedures, including arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, direct anterior total hip replacement, tourniquet-less total knee replacement, arthroscopic ACL reconstruction, and endoscopic carpal tunnel release.
Dr. Nilsson and his family own a small “hobby farm,” which includes mini-donkeys, a horse, and chickens. In his spare time, Dr. Nilsson enjoys tinkering and restoring a 1977 Jeep CJ5 with his son.
