More about Dr. John Stoltzfus, PhD, MA

NOTE: DR STOLTZFUS DOES NOT PRESCRIBE MEDICATION Dr. Stoltzfus’s mission is to provide parents and young adults with counseling, information, education, guidance, and resources. More today than ever, parents want to support their young adults in meeting the challenges of identity, independence, and intimacy. Dr. Stoltzfus works with both parents and young adults to support the transition to adulthood. For more than thirty-five years, Dr. Stoltzfus has worked with parents and their young adults within the context of a chemical dependency treatment program, an inpatient mental health facility, a Child Guidance Clinic, a youth service agency, and a private practice. Originally Dr. Stoltzfus was trained as a marriage and family therapist working with parents and adolescent children. Now his practice is focused on parents and young adults — millennials (born between 1980 and 2000) and the next generation of soon-to-be young adults (born after 2000). He will work with these families, the parents, and the young adult depending on what constitutes the best approach and the receptivity of the parties. Dr. Jack Stoltzfus is a Licensed Psychologist practicing in Shoreview, Minnesota. He has two master's degrees and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1980. His research and dissertation focused on defining and measuring the healthy emotional separation of adolescents from their parents.

We knew from the start that there were no easy answers for us. As parents of an adult child with psychotic bipolar disorder, our intervention possibilities are slim to none with the way our legal system works. Dr. Jack agreed to help us navigate the situation with input from his professional knowledge and experience. Looking for creative opportunities to support our son together with Dr. Jack gives us hope. He is a collaborator, and a good one!

Dr. Stoltzfus is an experienced therapist who knows what he is doing. He listened, asked questions, and was very understanding. His suggestions were very helpful and I will follow through with them. I very much appreciated his attention to my feelings and steps to deal with them. What a relief to be understood and to receive help.

By far the most helpful and enjoyable experience I have had with a mental health appointment. Dr. Stoltzfus provided clear communication prior to our meeting and was able to make things comfortable from the beginning of our meeting until the end. I would highly recommend scheduling an appointment if you're looking for someone who will not only listen but also provide helpful feedback.

He is very educated and knowledgeable. I felt like it was a sign when I was looking for the help I needed when I came across his name. With that said. I really appreciated that he valued my time and my opinion giving me so much confidence with picking up the pieces I am trying to fix and my journey to break the cycle from repeating itself with me as a parent and having a healthier relationship with myself.
