Dr. Sales listened to me explain my symptoms and then suggested a surgical procedure. He explained what the surgery entailed, the recovery time and what I could and could not do during recovery. He was very patient while I asked many questions and did not make me feel rushed.

I have been working with my back issues for years and I have had mixed feed back from Different doctors, and this has led me to not having any surgery so far. After working with Dr. Sales and his team they have put a level of ease in my mind that we will be back to real life in a short time. All I want to do is to walk tell I actually get tired again.

Dr.J Rafe Sales is an orthopedic spine surgeon focusing on minimally invasive, complex spine procedures and reconstruction. Our practice mission is and has always been to provide patients with the best opportunity to return to their prior function, be it through non-operative or operative care. Whether your pain arises from a small disc herniation or a debilitating spinal fracture, our first goal is always to provide a non-operative solution to a given problem. In some cases, however, non-operative treatment fails or does not adequately address the issue, and in these cases we recommend less invasive surgical options to get you back on your feet. We offer the latest in spinal technology, including cervical and lumbar disc replacement. In addition, we are one of the few providers in the Portland area to offer spinal cord stimulator paddle placement and revisions when appropriate. Dr. Sales continues to function as the Director of Spinal Trauma at Legacy Emanuel Hospital as well, one of only three Level One Trauma Centers in the Northwest.

This office is so professional! I love it! I have never waited more than a couple minutes. When I get into the room I am helped immediately. What a pleasant surprise that was! The doctor answers any questions you may have with patience and knowledge. He is BY FAR the most impressive spine doctor I have ever seen....everything I researched about him is true. I had my lumbar spine fused due to degenerative disk disease and I haven't felt ANY pain since....that was 6 years ago.
