Dr. Joseph Ghassibi received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut in 1981. He completed his fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at St. Luke's Hospital in New York City. He then dedicated one year of basic research to the study of the pathophysiology of the Acute Lung Injury Syndrome. Dr. Ghassibi's interest in sleep-disordered breathing dates back to 1987 as a Director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory. He was among the first physicians in New York to perform cardio-respiratory sleep studies to diagnose sleep apnea.
Dr. Ghassibi is involved in the teaching and training of pulmonary fellows in the field of sleep medicine. He is a recipient of the prestigious "Best Teacher" award at St. Luke's Hospital for three years in a row. He has numerous publications in the field of sleep and pulmonary disorders. Dr. Ghassibi is a fellow of the Academy of Sleep Medicine and of the American College of Chest Physicians. He is board certified in sleep medicine, pulmonary, critical care and internal medicine. Dr. Ghassibi is currently the medical director of the Sleep Disorders Institute and is an assistant clinical professor at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Ghassibi was warm and helpful during my visit. However, I was extremely disappointed that he did not care to do the follow-up call regarding my treatment that he had promised to make.
