Dr. Smiddy is originally from east Tennessee. He got his undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Virginia. He then earned his Medical Degree at The University of Tennessee in 1993. After completing his residency in Internal Medicine in Boston, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia to start his own practice.
Since 1996 Dr. Smiddy has had a successful practice in Internal Medicine and HIV. He currently has privileges at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta Medical Center and Crawford Long Hospital. He was recognized in 2004 as one of Atlanta’s Top Physicians by Southern Voice Magazine. Dr. Smiddy actively participates in monthly continuing educational programs and regional meetings.

He was friendly enough the first visit, and his assistant is incredibly nice, but he and I disagreed on my course of treatment. I then suggested he speak to my specialist so we could discuss the different opinions and coordinate treatment - he flat out refused! He used derogatory words toward both the other doctor (based on his treatment recommendation) and made me feel so horrible that I left in tears. I have never gone back, and would never recommend his services to anyone. He is not open to ideas other than his own, he doesn't listen to the patient, and he is rude and dismissive. In addition, I asked for my records when I left, and gave up after 2 or 3 requests.

I would and will highly recommend him. Very easy to talk to and I really felt comfortable bringing up concerns that I had. My kind of doctor and I'm so glad I found a great primary care physician. I have moved across the country and had to change doctors several times, and I knew from the previous reviews that he seemed to be the right fit.
Laid back, caring, thorough in questions while making it more of a two-way conversation. I felt very comfortable going through my history and discussing the future of my health.
