When booking your appointment, please book it using the full name as written on your insurance card. Dr. Joy Kennedy sees patients ages 4 to 64. Dr. Joy Kennedy is board certified in General Psychiatry, as well as Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She completed medical school at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. She went on to complete her General Psychiatry residency at UT Southwestern, where she trained with nationally recognized researchers in the fields of depression and psychotic disorders. She then stayed with UT Southwestern for a two-year Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at Children's Medical Center in Dallas, with a strong emphasis on both psychodynamic and family therapy. During her fellowship, she was active in cutting-edge research on the management of mood and anxiety disorders in children. She relocated to San Diego to work as a psychiatrist for the Navy. She treated both active duty sailors and their dependent children and served as an assistant professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences during her time working for the Navy. She is currently an outpatient provider specializing in the pharmacological management of a variety of psychiatric disorders, including mood, anxiety, psychotic, eating and behavioral disorders.
