Hi, I am Julie Shimko, an Oncology Registered Dietitian specializing in breast cancer, with over a decade of experience in clinical nutrition. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition Science from San Francisco State University and a Master's degree in English Literature from DePaul University, Chicago. In addition to running my own private practice, I have been with Stanford for nearly three years as an Outpatient Oncology Registered Dietitian, focusing on breast cancer nutrition and survivorship. I began my career at The Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, where I developed and implemented the nutrition program as the sole Registered Dietitian for the oncology department. I have actively contributed to several quality improvement projects aimed at optimizing nutrition interventions throughout the patient care pathway. As a consultant nutrition writer and researcher, I have worked with hundreds of women facing breast cancer, supporting them through the unique nutrition challenges at each stage of their treatment journey. I work with women before, during, and after treatment-including chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and hormonal therapy-recognizing that each phase requires tailored nutrition guidance. I understand that a diagnosis often brings a strong desire to take control and reduce the risk of recurrence, which includes making changes to diet and physical activity. Many patients complete therapy and are left wondering, ?Now what??
