About Kasey
Kasey Thornton is a certified speech-language pathologist through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is licensed to practice in the state of Virginia. She grew up in West Virginia but now resides between the Roanoke area and the New River Valley. She earned he
r Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and received a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education before getting her degree to be a speech-language pathologist. While she worked on herspeech-language pathologist degree, Kasey worked at a behavior therapist at a ABA clinic. She received her Masters of Science inSpeech-Language Pathology from the University of St. Augustine. Kasey has provided speech-language therapy to clients in a variety of school settings, outpatient clinic, and through Therapeutic Consultation.
My Approach To Speech Therapy
I value a total communication approach for my clients. Through a total communication approach, I have my clients use all modes of communication (i.e., verbalizations, sign language, AAC, etc.). My sessions, focuses on the clients needs that will best support them with their progress on their goals. I value building a connection with my clients so that they will know that I am there to support them.
What a Session Looks Like With Me
I begin my sessions with communicating with the caregivers to see how the week has been discussing any strengths or weaknesses they may have encountered. I prefer caregivers to be apart of the session so that they see how they can support their child when the session is over. My goal is for my clients and their caregivers, to feel comfortable by providing a comfortable environment but also making the sessions fun and engaging.
