Many controlled substances have a high potential for abuse, and overdose on controlled substances may result in death. Without an in person visit, the potential risk outweighs the intended benefit. If you believe you may need a prescription for a controlled substance, please schedule an in person visit. Ms. Alva left a successful career as a clothing and swimwear designer to go back to school and pursue her dream of working in medicine. "Ever since I was a young child, I have taken care of family, friends, and animals who were sick or injured. I majored in Psychology and Anthropology in college because I wanted to learn more about human behavior. I enjoyed designing clothing but I love Family Medicine because it gives me the best opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients and it encompasses all aspects of medicine, including preventative health." Ms. Alva derives great satisfaction from encouraging her patients to invest in themselves by putting in the time and energy to improve their health and reduce or eliminate the need for medications to help control their health issues. A Southern California native, Ms. Alva enjoys walking on the beach, kayaking, whale watching, and just "watching the beautiful sunsets." She is also a fan of acoustic guitar music, especially Hawaiian slack key. Kathleen Alva is a physician assistant and may not be selected as a primary care physician.
