Katya Simon in partnership with an ObGyn physician at AFC, joyfully serves the wide neighborhoods near Fairfax VA, combining her Frontier-acquired knowledge of midwifery and birth with her ability to speak three languages - English, Russian, and Spanish. After all, it is the cultural richness of the greater Washington DC area that defines its identity. Prior to becoming a midwife, Katya studied at Johns Hopkins School of nursing, learning excellence and precision of high-risk care as a Johns Hopkins Labor and Delivery nurse. Katya also pursued her love of natural birth by working as a birth assistant in Special Beginnings Birth and Women's Center and in St Joseph Medical Center in Baltimore. Katya prides herself on supporting women through every birth preference, empowering her clients to define their birth experience while always being aware of safety and long-term goal of healthy mom / healthy baby.
In addition to midwifery practice, Katya is engaged in national-level work for American College of Nurse-Midwifes Division of Research. She has multiple publications and presentations in fields of maternity as well as her previous focus, biochemistry, in which she holds a Master's Degree from Purdue University. She reads widely. Katya is married and has two daughters. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, swimming, good tea, and cats.

This was by far my favorite, most unexpectedly professional experience with a health care provider. I booked my appointment via Zocdoc and arrived on time only to realize there was a problem with scheduling- the office had not heard of me and thus were already booked for my time slot. I showed them my confirmation email from Zocdoc and they honored my appointment even though it meant they would have to work me in to an already busy schedule. Katya herself came out to the lobby and explained that there was a problem with the scheduling and she would get to everyone, not to worry. I was impressed with her kindness, professionalism, and communication.
The visit itself was straightforward, great explanations, and communication throughout. I asked her to be my PCP and am going to transfer to her. Would highly recommend.

Truthfully a terrible experience going here. I was switching from the pill to an IUD. My first meeting went fine and I feel like they did a great job explaining my options and the overall process, but from there is was all downhill. My placement was very painful as it is for many, but I followed up multiple times about continuous pain, bleeding etc for months after insertion and never once did someone pick up or return my calls. Not to mention I was told I had to get certain testing and ultra sounds that were 100% necessary but I was not informed they would not be covered by my insurance. I've made an appointment with a new OB to continue my process with my IUD.

Absolutely wonderful! I just cannot recommend Ms. Katya enough!!! Everyone is excellent at the office and so friendly. I just feel so calm and at ease with Ms. Katya. She is very knowledgeable and so lovely!!! Ms. Katya takes all the time you need to listen and discuss, it truly feels as you are chatting with a friend. She shares all the information that one needs to know and offers options. There is nothing I am uncomfortable discussing with the doctor from questions regarding issues i may be experiencing at the time to the tests I need to take. Most of the tests can be taken on site which is so convenient and if there is anything else, you are given full instructions, therefore, you are fully prepared.

Receptionist & Medical Assistant were great, as for Simon not so much. The reviews are honestly a shocker to me, can't help but wonder if they are real reviews. Wait time wasn't bad but as for the appointment it was far from what I expected such an intimate appointment to be like. Not sure if she realizes how rude she comes across. I would not recommend her unless you'd like to leave a doctors office feeling worse than when you came in.
