A native Washingtonian, Dr. Lauren Gavaris graduated from The Holton-Arms School, and received her medical degree at the George Washington University School of Medicine. She completed her ophthalmology training at the Washington Hospital Center. Before joining Eye Associates of Washington, Dr. Gavaris completed a two-year fellowship in Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. She specializes in functional and cosmetic eyelid and eyebrow surgery, tearing disorders, eyelid skin cancers, thyroid eye disease, and facial trauma. Dr. Gavaris also has experience with Botox and injectable facial fillers. She is currently involved in resident and fellow education at the Georgetown University, Washington Hospital Center, and Children’s National Medical Center.
Dr. Gavaris lives in Bethesda with her husband and two daughters. She also enjoys golf, cycling, running, playing and teaching tennis, movies, and concerts. Before her career in Ophthalmology she was a player in the Women's Professional Tennis Circuit (WTA Tour).

She was very thorough and professional. She really took a lot of time to ask questions and explore all potential diagnoses. I've seen other ophthalmologists recently and really feel like she went the extra mile to be thorough and comprehensive.

Dr. Gavaris is very thorough and likable. I was seen fairly quickly by her assistant for an initial eye exam. I then had to wait in excess of an hour in the examination room. Another doctor was out, so it may be that they were juggling appointments. Overall, I recommend Dr. Gavaris.
