Valley of the Sun Dermatology is proud to offer the professional services of Dr. Lora Plattner, a board-certified dermatologist and medical doctor who also specializes in performing Mohs surgery for patients diagnosed with skin cancer. Dr. Plattner began her career in medicine at the University of Missouri, where she graduated cum laude, and was inducted into one of the highest honor programs, Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA).
Following these academic achievements, Dr. Plattner gained valuable experience and insight concerning internal medicine practices and procedures as an intern at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Realizing she wanted to specialize in dermatology, Dr. Plattner chose to complete a dermatology residency at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, one of the most prestigious departments in the nation.
Her interest in Mohs technique of treating certain skin cancers stems from a fascination with cellular functioning, pathology and the role of genetics in disease expression. Dr. Plattner acquired expertise with Mohs micrographic surgery by completing a Mohs Surgery Fellowship at Penn State.
Family ties brought Dr. Plattner back to Arizona where she is now widely considered to be one of the leading authorities on the removal of skin cancers and one of the first Mohs surgeons within the local region. Dr. Plattner has provided care for over 20,000 patients in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area.
In addition to Dr. Plattner's medical dermatological degrees, Dr. Plattner is recognized as a Fellow by the American Academy of Dermatology and the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology. She is a member of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) and the Phoenix Dermatology Society (PDS).
