Originally from Syria, Dr. Alkhatib completed his medical degree at Damascus University, Faculty of Medicine. He travelled to the United States to attend the University of South Alabama,Mobile, Alabama where he conducted four year residency in psychiatry. After that he completed two year subspecialty in child and adolescent psychiatry at Vanderbilt University where he served as the child chief fellow at his senior year and received the leadership recognition award for his achievenements. Dr. Alkhatib is a tactful psychiatrist who stays up to date. He attends numerous scientific meetings and seminars.

A day before my appointment I got a confirmation listing someone else as the doctor I was seeing. I called and was told that Alkhatib is not accepting new patients and that I was actually scheduled with a physicians assistant. This is after hours of research and waiting for two weeks for the appointment. I think this kind of misrepresentation is rude.

Office is very nicely decorated and comfortable. The nurse practioner who saw me was helpful, friendly and competent. The receptionist was efficient and friendly as well. Ample parking and easy to find location. I highly recommend this doctor and the office for mental health needs

After 25 years of experience dealing with either the main doctor or their physician’s assistant, I can guarantee you that it’s extremely rare to find someone who actually listens and takes your concerns serious because of a sincere intent of wanting to help you. 95+% of the time, they rush your answers to a few questions and then make assumptions on how to help. That usually involves a multitude of prescriptions for which most of them are not designed to treat your issues (because they didn’t take the time to allow you to talk). Then they have you come back and they either add additional meds or take you of some of them.
These are the best of the best!

I had 5 visits with Dr A and finally concluded that he was not helping. Each visit consisted of a 10-minute conversation, an additional diagnosis, and a new prescription. If you want a psychiatrist who isn't interested in listening to you, and whose first instinct is to prescribe a dangerous cocktail of drugs which do not interact well with each other, this your guy.

It was really great, he cared a lot and asked me more questions in the time there than I've ever been asked at a doctors office ever before. He also takes his time to descide what medication would be best, unlike most psychiatrists who just prescribe random medine and try by luck and hope that it's a fit.

The doc asked me questions he read off a computer screen, didn't seem to care about me at all. He wrote prescriptions and told me I needed therapy (which I agree with). Not a great doc if you want to feel like someone actually cares at all.

Dr. A was pleasant and easy to work with. It was a Monday so I had to wait awhile, but once he saw me service was prompt. I did have to fill out the forms again even after using zocdoc but it was minimal paperwork.

Dr. Alkhatib was very kind and attentive even though it was late in the day and he had been seeing patients back to back. I would definitely recommend him to anyone seeking advice on a mental health problem. He's very practical and willing to work with his patients.

He actually saw me faster than right away, he found me looking for his office. He was curtious to the point of apologizing for receiving text messages from nurses during our session. He listened to what I had to say and didn't doubt my concerns. He was awesome, would absolutely recommend.
