This doctor knows what he's doing. I'm young, freaked out because my heart's acting up, and he and the whole staff made me feel comfortable. He was energetic, get-to-the-point, let's-get-you-fixed-ASAP, and ordered me 3 tests right off the bat. He's kinda like a gym instructor but for getting you healthy, same type of WE CAN DO THIS energy. Sometimes doctors and other staff seem bored or like they're just doing their jobs, this crew seemed 100% genuinely interested in fixing me.I was also super impressed by the facility, it was really nice and modern. No 10 year old Highlights magazines or dusty floral printed chairs. He even had some touchscreens in the office to show me diagrams and what he's looking for in my heart. We'll see what happens next!

I've never been to such a caring Doctor before! You can tell he truly wants to help people. As I was leaving a couple other patients were leaving and they asked me who my doctor was and I told them Elder they BOTH said he saved their lives and that they have been with him for years.

As an interventional cardiologist at the Detroit Medical Center Cardiovascular Institute, Dr. Mahir Elder specializes in minimally invasive procedures. With an extensive medical background, combined with a specialty in Cardiology and seven national board certifications, Dr. Elder remains the highest volume operator of peripheral arterial disease and amputation prevention in Michigan.
In addition to leading an award-winning team of cardiologists and heart surgeons at the Heart & Vascular Institute's three facilities, Dr. Elder serves as Medical Director of the Cardiac Care Unit at Harper University Hospital andas the AssistantProgram Director for Wayne State University's School of Medicine Interventional Fellowship Program — teaching other doctors how to perform complex cardiac procedures.
Dr. Elder holds multiple board certifications in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, endovascular disease, vascular interpretation and nuclear cardiology. He specializes in peripheral arterial disease, intracoronary and carotid stenting, vein disease and complex cardiovascular disease. He has developed numerous clinical trials and research on endovascular procedures and complex vascular cases. Dr. Elder also serves an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine both at Wayne State University's School of Medicine and at Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine.
Dr. Elder's knowledge and expertise in cardiovascular disease has garnered him many invitations to speak at international and national conferences. He has also been recognized with multiple awards from various institutions, including being named Wayne State University School of Medicine's Teacher of the Year and Mentor of the Year, Crain's Healthcare Hero, Hour Magazine's Top Doctor.

Dr. Elder has a friendly and accommodating staff. I was made to feel very comfortable and welcome. Most importantly, I especially appreciate the set-up of his facility; all testing is handled there - on-site!! Then, the staff scheduled the testing and follow-up around what was convenient for me. As a new patient, I am very pleased with my choice thanks to ZocDoc! I would highly recommend this physician to anyone in need of a Cardiac physician!
