Dr. Marc D. Makhani is a native of Los Angeles. His passion for medicine began in early adolescence when he volunteered at UCLA Medical Center.
Dr. Makhani pursued his bachelor's degree at UCLA with a major in psychobiology. He also volunteered at the Santa Monica UCLA Hospital as an undergraduate. He then went on to obtain his medical degree as a doctor of medicine (MD) at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He subsequently obtained a board certification in internal medicine after completing his residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Makhani then continued his medical training by pursuing a specialty in gastroenterology at Temple University Hospital in Pennsylvania before moving back to Los Angeles to begin his practice.
Dr. Makhani is the founder of LA Digestive Health and Wellness and centers his principles on a passion for promoting overall health and wellbeing. Digestion of nutrients is essential to proper nutrition and overall wellbeing, which led to his passion for his medical specialties in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Pancreaticobiliary conditions.
Dr. Makhani’s belief is that one’s health is the result of a combination of an active lifestyle, proper dietary habits and maintenance of digestive health.
Dr. Makhani has published research in several leading medical journals. His interests that include acid reflux in respect to a condition called Barrett’s esophagus, colon cancer screening and prevention, as well as motility disorders including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

My visit with Dr. Makhani was very odd. ZocDoc said he takes my insurance but upon arrival, I was told he did not. I packed my things to leave and the doctor insisted I see him and we work out payment later. The front desk staffer truly had no idea what she was doing and told me the cost would be $250 if the insurance claim wasn't covered. I now have a $450 bill that I will get to the bottom of. The doctor asked me a few questions, gave me samples of Linzess, and sent me on my way...

Does NOT accept insurances they list they do on ZocDoc. CALL YOUR INSURANCE FIRST before seeing Dr. Makhani, because I'm being put on the hook for over five figures due to them not accepting insurances they say they do.
The doctor was great, but at this price I can't recommend his services because they were exorbitant.

It was very unprofessional and the receptionist Kim handled me very poorly stating my insurance was not in network when in fact my insurance states it’s in network. I felt very uncomfortable by Kim condescending behavior towards me in front of the waiting room area discussing confidential matters in front of everyone. Very disappointing and I will never refer anyone to this doctors office!

Dr. Makhani is an amazing doctor! He is one of the most thorough and knowledgeable doctors I've ever met. He is transparent and honest with his thoughts on your diagnosis and lays out the next steps for testing and treatment for you so that you're completely informed. Also, he's really friendly and has great bedside manner. Highly recommend him as your specialist!

Dr. Makhani did not accept my insurance when it was stated on his site and information that he did take it. So instead of having a minimal copay, I had to put up a large sum in cash. I told him that I was not responsible for his mistake, but he still did not budge.
Moreover, he did not know what medication to prescribe me and had to look through his medical dictionary to find something that might work.
I would not recommend him.

Dr Makhani is so eager and motivated. He also is not afraid of my deafness. He approached me so well by writing papers to communicate effectively.

Dr. Makhani MD was amazing! I had been to multiple stomach doctors and he was the only one that really listened to me and explained everything. Ended up figuring out what I had and he walked me through everything. So nice and dedicated to help me and stick with me long term. Really could not say more good things!
