Originally from Louisville, Kentucky Dr. Schmitz attended the University of Kentucky in Lexington for his undergraduate and medical studies. After earning his Doctor of Medicine, Dr. Schmitz completed a general surgery internship and a neurosurgery residency at A.B. Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. Board certified in neurological surgery; Dr. Schmitz has been in practice for more than 31 years. He is especially interested in cranial and complex spine procedures.
“I am a very meticulous surgeon. I provide my patients with high-quality care with compassion. I tailor each treatment plan to the individual patient and make sure each patient understands their diagnosis and treatment plan.”
When not working, Dr. Schmitz and his wife (of more than three decades!) enjoy recreating outdoors including boating, snowboarding, motorcycling, hiking, 4-wheeling and traveling.
